We know that our users use Constant Therapy A LOT. And when I say A LOT, I mean our users as a whole have, to date, completed almost 200 MILLION exercises! Now that is a LOT of hard work! And we know that it’s important to keep your hard work engaging, fresh, and interesting. Read on to learn about a few of the recent updates we’ve been working on, and to learn more about our regular update process for keeping the app fresh and interesting for our users.
Helping your brain recover after a stroke or traumatic brain injury is hard work, and it takes time and practice. Luckily, Constant Therapy can help those dealing with neurological conditions impacting their speech, language, and cognitive skills to complete targeted, high-volume therapy practice on their own time. Thanks to neuroplasticity, your brain can develop new neural pathways to accomplish your therapy goals, even after injury.
Because Constant Therapy stores all of our information in the cloud, we are able to offer over 500,000 different individual exercises to keep therapy interesting and engaging. Since we can’t possibly fit 500,000 different exercises on one app that you store on your phone, Chromebook, or tablet, we use something called cloud storage. You may have heard the term “cloud computer” or “cloud-based technology” – but what does that actually MEAN?
Basically, when you download Constant Therapy to your mobile device, think of it as the outside portion of a hardcover book. The app itself is the cover and the spine of the book, and it stays on your phone, tablet, or Chromebook all the time. BUT, everytime you open your Constant Therapy “book”, the app knows to fill your book with new pages, with the right therapy activities to help you work on your specific needs. And because we have a virtually limitless amount of room in our cloud, we can send you new pages for your book every time you login. This means your therapy activities change, AND so do the exercises themselves, with new images, reading passages, maps, math problems, questions, and words each time you open your “book”. All of those images, words, reading passages, and more live in the “cloud”, so we can send those to you using WiFi for fresh therapy every time you log in.
The especially cool thing is that Constant Therapy is constantly (see what I did there?) updating your therapy materials! We’re always adding new images, questions, reading passages, math problems, and more to a huge set of “pages” (therapy exercises) that we can send to your Constant Therapy “book” (app)! Unless we’re adding a totally new therapy activity, you don’t even need to download a new version of the app to get access to these new materials – we just send them on down to you! The app asks our cloud-based storage system for new therapy material, and the cloud sends them on down, right to you and your phone, tablet, or Chromebook! We try to get out updated content every few weeks to keep things fresh and interesting for our users.
Our clinical content team collaborates closely with our engineering team to identify which therapy activities should be prioritized for updated content, such as new images, new questions, new reading passages, or new math problems. If a therapy activity has a relatively smaller number of exercises in it, or hasn’t been updated in a while, we prioritize that content. The great thing about our cloud is that once we add new content, it’s there forever (unless we receive feedback from customers that a piece of content is not working well, and we definitely remove content whenever appropriate)! That means that our library of therapy exercises is always growing and expanding.
Here are just a few examples of how we keep your tasks interesting and new!
We add new therapy activities, too! One of our newer therapy activities, Say words in a category, was especially exciting to us, because it can help users who need to work on memory, language processing, word retrieval, speaking, AND attention, all in one task! We also look at the hierarchy of our tasks to see where there are gaps based on the data, and that, along with patient and clinician feedback, guides our addition of new therapy activities to the program.
And most importantly, we use clinical evidence and data to drive all of our decisions. Whether it’s designing new therapy activities, or making sure our levels and difficulty hierarchy across therapy activities is correct, we go to the latest science for guidance. We also are always checking user data, making sure that we are presenting the right therapy activities and exercises at the right time for the right patients. You as our users are constantly improving through neuroplasticity – and we’re making sure that we’re constantly updating our content to support you along the journey!
