Time is precious, and with so much going on in the world we have to make the most of the time we have available! That goes for spending time with family and friends, doing the hobbies that bring you joy, and of course, your Constant Therapy practice, which makes doing all of those most important things easier. Read on to learn how to optimize your Constant Therapy practice environment and maximize your time!
Getting distracted is easy when you are at home – there is the laundry to be folded, your favorite book or television show calling to you, those plants that need water, and what about that snack in the fridge? By creating good habits and setting up your environment correctly, you can help to block out some of those distractions to make the most of your Constant Therapy practice time.
- Choose the right spot and make it consistent. Pick a place in your house with a comfortable seating arrangement for you and a good place to put your device while you work. Make sure you are in a space without too many visual distractions, like a busy window or people coming in and out of the room.
- Turn off distractions. Put your cell phone on silent. Make sure the TV is off. Let your loved ones or housemates know that you are in the middle of something. Let the dog out first so you can avoid barking if possible. Try your best to cut distractions off at the pass – sometimes noise-canceling headphones can help!
- Create a routine. Humans find routine comforting. It helps us know what to expect and gives us reliability in an unreliable world. Maybe you always use the restroom right before you start your practice. Maybe you have your coffee or tea sitting next to you. Find things that help make you feel comfortable and focused and make that a part of your Constant Therapy practice routine.
- Set a consistent schedule. Whether it’s first thing in the morning, just before lunch, or at a time when you feel your sharpest, having a consistent schedule is the key to making a consistent habit. If you use a daily planner or calendar, add your Constant Therapy practice time in! You can set an alarm on your phone to remind you as well. The research shows that doing Constant Therapy around 4-5 days per week gives you the best outcomes.
- Identify your goals. Having a “why” when we are doing hard things is essential for success. Put up a visual reminder in your practice space to remind yourself why you’re doing this hard work. Maybe it’s a picture of a loved one you want to easily chat with. Perhaps it’s a picture of your favorite recipe you’d like to get back to cooking.
